Pitcher, 11, hit by line-drive, now advocating for pitcher’s safety equipment

Ralph and Nicky Warner of Midland Park have been living moment by moment since Sunday, when their son, Ralphie, suffered a fractured skull after being struck in the head by a line-drive hit during a youth baseball tournament.

“He’s alert and he’s talking,” his father, Ralph Sr., said Tuesday. “They did an MRI this morning and we’re waiting to see if the bleeding has stopped or slowed.”

Ralphie, the oldest of three and a twin, was pitching in a championship game at the Cal Ripken Baseball Tournament in Aberdeen, Maryland when he was struck in the temple by a line-drive ball, his mother said.
