Female youth soccer players and their parents have filed a proposed class action in Pennsylvania federal court charging the United States Soccer Federation Inc. and U.S. Youth Soccer Association Inc. with negligence in not requiring headgear and allegedly downplaying evidence on the long-term effects of concussions.
Lead plaintiff Alivia Sherman, a minor who plays youth soccer and has suffered concussions during play, seeks damages to cover the medical bills of those who have suffered the damaging effects of concussions in the sport. The suit, filed Friday, also seeks whatever other injunctive relief the court finds necessary.
